W8: Decentralized Technologies and Applications for IoT (D’IoT) 2021

Abstract: The D’IoT workshop 2021 will focus on technology advancements and applications of the decentralized technologies aka blockchain for IoT and big data. The submissions are expected in areas such as Theories and applications of Big Data Analytics for IoT, Decentralized applications for Healthcare informatics under IoT, privacy-preserving visualization techniques for data from IoT devices, security and privacy in IoT using decentralized techniques, next-generation decentralized applications for IoT, Decentralized IoT applications in Smart cities, Decentralized applications for FoG and Edge computing driven IoT, Visions on Decentralized Trustless Systems for IoT, and others. The workshop is concerned with inter-disciplinary and cross-domain studies spanning a variety of areas in computer science including enriched IoT data management on Blockchain, mobile computing, information extraction and retrieval, and security, as well as other disciplines such as management information science.

Keynote Speaker: Nuno M. Garcia, University of Beira Interior, Covilha, Portugal

Bio: Nuno M. Garcia holds a PhD in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Beira Interior (UBI, Covilhã, Portugal) (2008) and is a 5-year BSc in Mathematics / Informatics (Hons.) also from UBI (1999-2004). He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science Department at UBI and Invited Associate Professor at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Lisbon, Portugal). He was founder and is the coordinator of the Assisted Living Computing and Telecommunications Laboratory (ALLab), a research group within the Instituto de Telecomunicações at UBI. He was also co-founder and is Coordinator of the Executive Council of the BSAFE LAB – Law enforcement, Justice and Public Safety Research and Technology Transfer Laboratory, a multidisciplinary research laboratory in UBI. He is the coordinator of the Cisco Academy at UBI and Chair of the COST Action IC1303 AAPELE – Architectures, Algorithms and Platforms for Enhanced Living Environments (Brussels, Belgium). He is member of ISOC and of the Non-Commercial Users Constituency, a group within GNSO in ICANN. His main interests include Next-Generation Networks, algorithms for bio- signal processing, distributed and cooperative protocols, and the battle for a Free and Open Internet.

Keynote Speaker: Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan

Bio: Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry is currently severing as a Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Electrical, Electronics, & Computer Engineering, and Advisor Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) Jamshoro. He has varied teaching and research experience of more than 3 decades in diversified fields such as Electronics, Telecommunication, Internet of Things, Telemedicine, Wireless sensor networks, ICT, Intelligent instrumentation etc. After completing his first degree in Electronic engineering discipline in 1983 with first class first position, he joined MUET as a faculty member. He did PhD in the field of Microprocessor Based Intelligent Instrumentation from the school of Electronics and Computer Science University of Southampton, UK in 1990.  He rejoined the MUET after his PhD in 1990, and in 1996, he was appointed as a full Professor. In 2008, he was appointed as Director Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) which he continued till 201. He served as a Dean, Faculty of Electrical, Electronics, & Computer Engineering from 2011 to 2018. Having vast international exposure as he remained Guest Scientist/Associate of the ICTP (under umbrella of UNESCO/UNU), Trieste Italy for Twelve (12) Years and three times European Union Erasmus Mundus Fellow. In the capacity of Guest Scientist/Associate, he visited the UNESCO/UNU ICTP, Trieste Italy for more than 18 months in 8 different intervals to attend international workshops and carry out research in Italian Labs.  Under these Fellowships, he delivered Keynote lectures in Italy, England, Ireland, USA, France, Germany, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Spain, Cyprus, Norway, Bahrain, UAE, Thailand and Switzerland.

Bio: Dr. Sandeep Pirbhulal received his Ph.D. degree in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017. He is currently working as a research scientist at Department of Computer Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. Dr. Pirbhulal has a vast experience of 7 years in Academia & Research. His current research focuses on wireless body sensor networks (WSNs), privacy and security for WSNs, Bioinformatics, Greenness and Security Solutions, and Internet of Things. He has published more than 50 international journal articles including IEEE TBME, IEEE Sensor Journal, and IEEE JBHI among others, over 5 international conference proceedings papers, and 4 book chapters. He received the Best Student Presentation Award with Cash Prize at 11th IEEE-EMBS International Summer School & Symposium.

 

Bio: Dr. Ali Hassan Sodhro at present working as a Researcher at department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering, Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden. Before that Dr. Sodhro was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at department of Computer and Information Science, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden. He also worked as Erasmus Mundu’s Postdoctoral Fellow under SMARTLINK Project at University Lumiere Lyon 2, France (Aug.2017 to Aug.2018). Dr. Sodhro completed his PhD from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) China in 2016. His main research domains are, Green and Battery-aware Biomedical Systems, Medical IoT, and Machine Learning for Healthcare Applications. Dr. Sodhro is the author of 60 Research Journal & International conference Proceeding Papers in IEEE Wireless Communication Magazine, IEEE IoT-J, IEEE TII, IEEE T-ITS, IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Access, Information Fusion, Elsevier and so on. Also, he has published 7 Book Chapters. Dr. Sodhro is recipient of several research awards, i.e., Third Best Paper Award with Cash Prize & Certificate at Guangzhou Annual Report Competition at Guangzhou, China, 2015, Best Graduate Award 2016 etc. He has more than 10 years of research and teaching experience.

 

Bio: Dr. Muhammad Muzammal is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science, Bahria University, Islamabad, Pakistan, also a Visiting Associate Professor under CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) at the Centre of Big Mobile Intelligence, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Shenzhen, and also the Vice Director of the Guangdong Provincial Research and Development Centre of Blockchain and Distributed IoT Security, Guangdong, China. He received a bachelor’s degree from IIUI, Pakistan, in 2005, a master’s degree from FAST-NU, Pakistan, in 2007, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Leicester, U.K, in 2012. He was a Software Analyst with LMKR. He His research interests are in large-scale data mining, including algorithm design and mobility data mining. Recently, he is interested in block-chain technology with a focus on decentralized systems and mining.
