Abstract: As the era of 6G approaches, the expectations for AI-driven advancements in Radio Access Networks (AI-RAN) are expanding globally, signaling a significant shift in how wireless networks are designed, managed, and optimized. The integration of AI into RAN systems offers the potential to revolutionize network performance, enabling unprecedented efficiency, adaptability, and intelligence. However, defining AI’s specific role within RAN is a complex challenge, as its applications are highly context dependent and shaped by individual use cases, network environments, and technological constraints.
This workshop aims to create a dynamic and interactive forum for exploring these multifaceted applications, with a particular focus on addressing critical challenges in managing limited resources such as energy and spectrum. These resources, which serve as key performance indicators (KPIs) for 6G technologies, are at the heart of sustainable and high-performing networks. By investigating how AI can optimize their utilization, we seek to uncover solutions that are not only technically robust but also practical and scalable for real-world deployment.
To effectively evaluate these KPIs, it is essential to examine the application of AI across a diverse range of technological frameworks, with Open RAN and IoT technologies (e.g. LoRaWAN) representing prominent examples. These frameworks highlight the potential for AI to drive innovation in areas such as resource allocation, network interoperability, and adaptive decision-making. Furthermore, they exemplify the versatility of AI, demonstrating how it can be tailored to meet the specific demands of different deployment scenarios, from urban dense networks to rural and industrial IoT environments.
Our workshop will serve as a collaborative platform where participants can engage in deep-dive discussions on the transformative potential of AI in RAN, bridging the ga between theoretical advancements and practical implementations. Through expert presentations, case studies, and interactive panels, we will explore cutting-edge AI techniques, such as reinforcement learning, predictive analytics, and federated learning, in the context of their applicability to RAN. In doing so, we aim to foster meaningful collaboration among researchers, industry professionals, and technologists, promoting the exchange of ideas and the co-creation of innovative solutions.
Ultimately, this workshop is designed to inspire innovation, encourage cross-disciplinary cooperation, and provide actionable insights into the evolving landscape of AI driven RAN. By addressing the critical challenges of resource management and performance optimization, we hope to contribute to the advancement of sustainable and intelligent 6G networks, paving the way for a future where AI and RAN work seamlessly together to meet the growing demands of our interconnected world.
