Abstract: The data-oriented transmission also known as session-specific transmission, is an emerging topic in the field of wireless communications. This approach primarily focuses on meeting the latency requirements of transmitted data while simultaneously characterizing both reliability and latency performance, making it particularly relevant for time-sensitive applications. One of the key metrics in this area is Delay Outage Rate (DOR) metric, which has gained significant attention for its ability to evaluate system performance in real-time data transmission scenarios.
The 2nd workshop is concerned with inter-disciplinary and cross-domain studies spanning a variety of areas where data-oriented approach brings considerable utility.
Co-organizer’s Bios:
Mehmet Ilte:
Mehmet C. Ilter received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carleton University, Canada, in 2017. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Tampere University, Finland, and previously held an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Fellowship. His research interests include positioning, wireless communications, signal processing, and data-oriented transmission. Dr. Ilter has contributed extensively to physical layer concepts to 5G/6G systems and has co-organized the 1st Workshop on Data-Oriented Transmission at IEEE VTC 2025 Spring (Oslo).
Rui Dinis:
Rui Dinis received the Ph.D. degree from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2001, and the habilitation degree in telecommunications from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (FCT), Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, in 2010. He is currently a Full Professor with FCT-UNL. In 2003, he was an Invited Researcher with Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada. He was a Researcher with CAPS (Centro de Análise e Processamento de Sinal), IST, from 1992 to 2005 and a Researcher at ISR (Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica) from 2005 to 2008. Since 2009 he has been a Senior Researcher with IT (Instituto de Telecomunicações). His research interests include centered in transmission, estimation and detection techniques for wireless communications. He is a VTS Distinguished Speaker and a ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer. He co organized the inaugural Data-Oriented Workshop at IEEE VTC 2025 Spring.
Mikko Valkama:
Mikko Valkama received his D.Sc. (Tech.) from Tampere University of Technology, Finland, in 2001, and is now Professor and Head of Electrical Engineering at Tampere University. His research spans radio communications, localization, and sensing with emphasis on 5G/6G networks. He has co-authored more than 500 publications, is an IEEE Fellow, and has served on numerous technical
program committees and editorial boards. He co-organized the inaugural Data-Oriented Workshop at IEEE VTC 2025 Spring.
